Rosann Simmons
Rose A. Simmons, now known as Rosann Simmons, was born in 1964 in Mullins, South Carolina, to Rev. Daniel Lee Simmons, Sr., and Annie G. Simmons. She began her higher education at South Carolina State University and later transferred to Norfolk State University, where she pursued a degree in Music Education. Beyond her academic pursuits, Simmons has led a multifaceted career, serving as a Minister of Music, High School Choral Teacher, International Vocalist, and a professional cosmetologist. After 32 years in the beauty industry, she retired, having earned a Doctorate of Professional Cosmetology in recognition of her comprehensive expertise.
The tragic death of her father in the Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church Bible Study Massacre on June 17, 2015, profoundly impacted Simmons, steering her towards a mission of promoting “The Gift of Forgiveness” and advocating for love over hate. She honors her father’s legacy by traveling across the nation to share
his story of heroism and serving as the Founder and President of The Rev. Daniel Lee Simmons, Sr. Memorial Legacy and Scholarship Fund donates $30,000 annually in scholarship awards to his alma mater.
Simmons has been featured on various media platforms, including national and international television shows, newspapers, and magazines, for her work spreading the hope of Jesus Christ and advocating against gun violence. She has played significant roles in documentaries and films addressing these issues. She is a respected speaker and activist for racial reconciliation and change within the African American community and beyond.
Adding to her extensive list of accomplishments and advocacy, Rosann Simmons recently spoke at a Minister Farrakhan Nation of Islam assembly, demonstrating her commitment to engaging with diverse communities and platforms to pursue societal change and unity. This engagement reflects her ongoing dedication to dialogue and reconciliation across different spectrums of the African American experience and her relentless effort to sow seeds of love in the face of hate.
